World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5 June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet earth.

The World Environment Day is the biggest global celebration for positive environmental action.The first World Environment Day was celebrated in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. The World Environment Day is a part of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) for creating awareness and action worldwide for the environment. It is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. Today it is widely celebrated in more than 100 countries.United Nations designed World Environment Day as the main tool to create worldwide awareness about hot environment issues.
The main theme of celebrating the World Environment Day is “Reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect flora and fauna, and save the Earth.” It is a good step toward the neat and clean environment of the world. The industrialization growth damage the world environment by its harmful gases in the air which also damage the Ozone layer. World Environment Day can be celebrated in many different ways: Through Art and Craft Exhibition , Film Festivals, Competition, Demonstration Activities, Drama, Online and Social Media Activities. It is a day for people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations.
This year's theme of celebrating the World Environment Day is "Go Wild for Life" - Zero Tolerance of the illegal Wildlife Trade.
- The illegal trade in wildlife has not only lead to erosion of biodiversity but has threatened the wildlife in a major way.
- Elephants are being slaughtered for their tucks, tigers for skins with embalmed heads and the shell of giant sea Turtles are sold in the market just for the sake of money.
- All this has threatened the present as well as the future generation and we need to fight before it becomes too late.
